Aaron Jonah Lewis

Aaron Jonah Lewis, a native of Michigan and longtime resident of Virginia, and currently taking Berlin and Germany by storm, is a celebrated fiddle player who helped found the world-renowned neotraditional bluegrass/oldtime showmasters Special Ed and the Shortbus, now known as The Hot Seats.

Aaron’s credentials as a traditional fiddler are hard to beat: He has been a regular award winner in the bluegrass fiddle competition at The Galax Old Fiddlers Convention, the longest running old time and bluegrass festival in the United States, and in traditional and neotraditional band competitions at the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia. In 2007 Lewis’s band Special Ed... won Grand Prize at the Independent Music World Series, Southeast Region, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Aaron Jonah Lewis’ hauntingly powerful command of the fiddle takes you on a journey to his Virginia roots and the music that moved and continues to move generations. Whether youthfully bright and playful or soaring and melancholic, the music he plays evokes a time gone by when you’d sit on your porch, banjo in hand, and play sweet tunes until long after the sun had set. The songs he plays are a blend of old-time dance rhythms and lyrical ballads telling tales of love, loss, freedom and moonshine. His virtuosic edge brings a unique flavour to this timeless music.
